‘What Caused These Delays?’: Mellieħa Councillor Calls On Clayton Bartolo To Explain Għadira Project Lag

PN Mellieħa councillor Gabriel Micallef has posed five questions to Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo to understand what caused delays for a major Għadira promenade regeneration project.

Initially forecast to be concluded by June 2023, Bartolo recently announced that the government will be failing to complete the works by the initial deadline, and the project will only be partially completed by summer.

“The Għadira promenade regeneration project is a significant development for our community, and it is crucial for the government to provide transparent information about its progress, costs, and potential impacts,” Micallef wrote on social media.

The project extending beyond summer causes “concerns for local residents and businesses during the busy summer period”.

“To address these concerns, I have prepared a set of legitimate questions for the responsible minister:

1. What caused the delays in the Għadira promenade regeneration project, and what measures are being taken to address them?

2. How will the project delay impact traffic and parking during the busy summer period, and what steps are being taken to mitigate these issues?

3. How is the government addressing concerns about the impact of the project on local businesses and residents, and what steps are being taken to minimize disruption?

4. How is the government ensuring that the temporary completion of the project during the summer period will not compromise public safety and comfort, and what measures are in place to address any issues that may arise?

5. What is the projected completion date of the project, and how is the government ensuring that it is completed within a reasonable timeframe?”

Micallef stressed that these questions should be answered to address the concerns of local residents and stakeholders regarding the impact of the Għadira promenade regeneration project during the busy summer period.

“Let us work together to ensure that the project is carried out efficiently and responsibly to benefit our community,” he said.

This is far from the first time that the government has failed to abide by its own deadlines, with infrastructural projects often extending months past the deadline.
