Opposition leader Bernard Grech questioned Robert Abela’s silence on the damning voter fraud claims made by a Transport Malta whistleblower.

“If I were Robert Abela I would tell the police commissioner to come out and say that he is investigating this and free me from this dark cloud hanging over my head. But he has not, which makes me think, what do they have to hide?” he said on Sunday.

In an interview on NET FM, the Nationalist Party’s radio station, he said the people have the right to know whether these imminent allegations were true or not, and even urged Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa to “wake up”.

“If these allegations are untrue then they have an obligation to clear the air and if they are true, then those responsible must be brought to justice,” the PN head said.

Grech also said that Identity Malta should be investigated.

This week, ex-Parliamentary Secretary for Citizenship Alex Muscat denied allegations linked to an illegal identity citizenship scheme, as accused by whistleblower Adel Ali Hassan.

Adel Ali Hassan, a long-time Labour activist has alleged that the identities of foreign-born Maltese citizens were given to other foreign residents for them to vote for the Labour Party.

This was all made possible, the whistleblower alleged in court, because a number of foreign-born citizens had not been registered as deceased once they died, so their identities could essentially be “transferred” to other foreigners living in Malta, who would then be paid to vote for the Labour Party.
