Winch Room And Service Pillars Inaugurated At Marsaskala Port

During a press conference, the Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Animal Rights, Alicia Bugeja Said, inaugurated a new infrastructural project at Marsaskala Port.
The project includes a Winch Room and Service Pillars that will provide essential and direct services to the fishing community and other port users.
The Winch Room will be used by fishermen to haul boats in and out of the water, while the Service Pillars will provide access to water and electricity which are basic services that are necessary for fishing operations.
Bugeja Said explained that this project is part of a series of investments announced in the Budget, aimed at strengthening fishermen’s ports around Malta and Gozo.
“Through these projects, we are responding to fishermen’s requests, not only in Marsaskala but also in various other ports,” Bugeja Said affirmed.
The Parliamentary Secretary also announced the introduction of a free 24/7 tuna hoisting service, to simplify the work of those in the fishing sector, especially when handling large fish such as tuna.
“Our fishermen are an important part of our country’s maritime identity, and the Government remains committed to supporting them through modern infrastructure, efficient services, and a long-term vision for the development of the sector.”
“We are also committed to continuing to address the needs of the fishing sector, because a strong fishing sector means a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient country,” concluded Bugeja Said.
The Acting Director of the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Bjorn Azzopardi, explained that they are ensuring these services are accessible to everyone, including fishing associations.
“Our goal is to simplify the lives of fishermen and make their work easier and more accessible.”
