Malta and skiing may not be the most obvious combination, especially since the last time our islands saw snow was in 1999. But we actually take part in major international skiing competitions, including the Olympics, under the Maltese flag. Wild.
Maltese-French skier Elise Pellegrin has taken part in the Winter Olympics for the past two editions (2014, 2018). She is currently training to take part in the 2019 World Alpine Skiing Championships, in an attempt to achieve her dream of entering the Top 30.
To help fund her training, she’s started an online fundraising campaign where she’s hoping to raise €6,000. In return for your donations to campaign (which ends in a month), you can receive cute rewards raging from lucky bracelets to knitted beanies, to a full-on ski suit.
“2018 was great, but I am looking forward to 2019,” Pellegrin said on her official Facebook fan page. “This year, it is my last chance to realise what I wanted since the past years: to fulfil my dreams as athlete with the best athletes in the Alpine World before taking new horizons in 2020.”
So here’s your chance to support a campaign that will confuse a good portion of the world, by having Malta – land of sun and sea – qualify for the skiing World Championships.
