A 72-year-old woman is at risk of dying after she was run over by a motorcycle in Birkirkara. 

Police were informed of the accident at around 12pm along Triq il-Wied. 

A spokesperson for the police said that the 72-year-old Naxxar resident was hit by a Honda motorcycle which was being driven by a 22-year-old man from Mosta.

Upon impact, the man fell off the motorcycle, however, it then crashed into a Renault, which was being driven by a 44-year-old woman resident of Xewkija in Gozo. 

A medical team was called to the scene and an ambulance took the elderly woman to Mater Dei hospital for the necessary treatment.

The elderly woman was certified to be suffering from serious injuries. 

The drivers of the Renault and the Honda were not injured.

Police Magistrate Rachel Montebello is leading an inquiry, while police investigations are ongoing.
