A 77-year-old woman is at risk of dying after she experienced difficulty while swimming in Marsaskala last night.

At around 7pm last night, police were notified that their assistance was needed at the Bajja tal-Fajtata, Wied il-Għajn.

Police who went on site found that a 77-year-old woman, a resident of Marsaskala, had experienced difficulty while she was swimming.

Members from the Civil Protection Department were called on site who brought the woman to safety, and an ambulance transported the woman to Mater Dei Hospital.

It was then certified that she is suffering from serious injuries.

Magistrate Kevon Azzopardi is leading an inquiry.
