Woman Robbed At Knifepoint While On First Date In Bormla
Two men were charged with robbing a woman with a physical disability at knifepoint during a supposed romantic date with one of the accused.
25-year-old Fgura resident Clive Gerada asked the woman out on a date and allegedly conspired with 21-year-old Marsa resident Keith Testa to rob her.
They stole more than €2,000 worth of jewellery during the violent incident.
Times of Malta reported the robbery took place in Ġnien San Nikola in Bormla on Tuesday at around 9pm.
Testa, who works as an air conditioner installer, allegedly attacked the woman, threatened her by lacing a knife to her neck and stole her gold necklace.
Police inspector Lydon Zammit explained to Magistrate Josette Demicoli that the victim went to the police station to report the robbery.
While there, Gerada allegedly called the woman on her mobile as she was reporting the crime and then turned up to the police station where he was immediately arrested.
Both men were charged with stealing, conspiring to commit a crime and relapsing.
Meanwhile, Testa was charged with holding the vulnerable woman against her will, threatening her with a knife, slightly injuring her and carrying an unlicensed weapon.
Zammit further said that the necklace was passed on to a third party but the police still managed to recover it.
Gerada is being represented by defence lawyers Franco Debono and Francesca Zarb. While, Testa’s defence consists of Alex Scerri Herrera and Daniel John Attard.
The aforementioned defence lawyers requested bail for the accused.
They argued that all evidence had been preserved and that the accused cooperated with the police while. They further questioned why a magisterial inquiry had not been ordered and why the woman’s testimony had not been taken under oath.
To refute the request, Zammit argued the victim was a vulnerable person who trusted Gerada, that the police had civilian eyewitnesses who still had to testify and that there is a possibility that the accused would tamper with the evidence if granted bail.
The bail request was turned down by Magistrate Demicoli and the pair were ordered to be held in custody.
