A missing €820,000 lottery ticket has been claimed by a woman with serious illness who mistakenly threw it away. However, she’s going to have to go to court to win it back after Maltco ignored her claim.
The woman said she’s played the same numbers in the Quaterno lottery over the last nine months or so, but after she left the hospital recently, she threw away the ticket with her old batch.
She has now filed a prohibitory injunction, with her lawyer Carlos Bugeja telling the Times of Malta:
“[It] is a matter of life and death and not one of simple monetary gain.”
“She has ample evidence proving that she bought the winning ticket, which unfortunately she was dispossessed of due to the ordeal of having been admitted to hospital because of grave and serious health issues,” he continued.
She initially claimed the prize in June, even sending a judicial letter to Maltco, and has so far successfully obtained access to the company’s IT data.
Earlier today, Malta revealed that the €820,000 would go to the Good Causes Fund after two months of no one proving their claim to the prize.
“My client would like to clarify that she appreciates the benefit derived by the money being given to the Good Causes Fund and does a lot of charity herself,” her lawyer said.
