Eco Works On Dwejra Lines Begin As Malta’s First National Trail Announced
Malta is set to have its first national trail as ecological works to make Dwejra Lines more accessible to trekkers are underway.
The scenic landscapes of Dwejra Lines form part of the wider Victoria Lines, which stretches from Fomm ir-Riħ to Pembroke.
President of the Ramblers Association, Ingram Bongin, explained that works include extensive clean-ups of illegally dumped waste, pruning of overgrown vegetation, signage, picnic benches and drew blazes – internationally known by ramblers to guide their path.
A regular cleaning schedule across the soft areas will be carried out by Ambjent Malta to maintain the trail and encourage trekkers to visit.
“As part of the electoral manifesto pledge to make Victoria Lines a national trail, we have carried out works on the Dwejra Lines for people to access and enjoy this part of the walking trail. Our commitment is to continue with this work and to create more awareness about the need to protect such places and biodiversity,” said Minister Miriam Dalli.
Josianne Muscat, director responsible for Environmental Projects within Ambjent Malta, said that work is also being planned for Comino and Foresta200.
