A 20-year-old youth tore into Robert Abela at a PN protest yesterday, accusing the Prime Minister of “robbing her future” and pushing several youths to leave Malta for good.

“Robert Abela, you should be ashamed of yourself for forcing people to protest in the streets because you only care about yourself and those close to you,” 20-year-old Jade England, an activist within the PN’s TeamStart youth group, told the cheering crowd.

“You have lost all sense of control and brought this country to its knees. We paid for you to go to New York with your friends while families in Malta cannot make ends meet.”

“Everyday that passes I feel like I’m being suffocated. Robert Abela, your leadership is robbing my future and that of my friends. So many studies were carried out that prove youths like me are sick and tired of the situation, but you haven’t yet learned or you don’t want to learn because it doesn’t pay you to.”

England warned that sky-high property prices have left several youths wondering whether they have a future in Malta.

“You try to save up some money to invest in a property but it’s impossible to do so without crucifying yourself for the rest of your life to repay the exaggerated mortgage.”

She also accused the government of sidelining education, destroying the environment and fostering a culture of cronyism.

“You have destroyed fair play, no wonder youths are leaving. You have managed to destroy their hope too. Youths are sending you a crystal clear message, Robert Abela – with you as Prime Minister, we will keep losing our countryside impunity will keep on reigning and education will keep on going from bad to worse.”

Citing her own personal experience working as a part-time supermarket cashier, England warned it is not only youths who are losing heart.

“Especially when the end of the month arrives, people often urge me to cut some prices because they would only have €20 to spend. Or else they would start removing items from the trolley when they see the receipt. Is this the mass economic growth you had promised us?”

“Prime Minister, stop robbing us of our peace of mind, hope, and national identity, and stop selling our countryside to soulless speculators. Stop stealing our future from our hands.”
