Yorgen Fenech Granted Bail After Over Five Years

Yorgen Fenech, the man charged with complicity in the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, has been granted bail.
This comes after recent court proceedings last week, that saw a pending decision stemming from multiple arguments by the defence around the fact that Fenech has been held in custody since 2019.
His lawyers highlighted that as per Article 575 of the Criminal Code, he should be granted bail once 30 months passed from when his bill of indictment was issued.
Earlier today, the bail decree was issued in court by Madam Justice Edwina Grima.
In light of this, Fenech is expected to pay €80,000 deposit with his aunt Moira Fenech set to serve as his guarantor, a decision that was brought up by Fenech herself in recent hearings.
More developments yet to follow.
