Yorgen Fenech, the main suspect in the assassination Daphne Caruana Galizia, will not be interrogated for the next 24 hours because of his medical condition, the police have confirmed.

Earlier today, Fenech complained of chest pains during interrogation, with his doctor recommending that he be taken to Mater Dei hospital under strict police security.

“Due to his medical connection, Mr Fenech won’t be in a position to undergo further interrogation for the next 24 hours,” the police said. “The police have been informed that this is standard hospital procedure following the type of treatment that was administered to Mr Fenech.”

Fenech was granted police bail for the time being.

Fenech’s admittance to hospital comes the same day reports emerged that he requested a presidential pardon in exchange for information on the murder.
