Yorgen Fenech’s Lawyers File Complaint Against Jason Azzopardi Over Mastermind Claim
Yorgen Fenech’s lawyers have filed a complaint against Jason Azzopardi after he said in a Lovin Malta interview that all the evidence so far indicates Fenech is the sole mastermind behind the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia.
In the interview, Azzopardi – who is the parte civile lawyer of the Caruana Galizia – said all the evidence points towards Fenech being the sole mastermind and his request for a pardon indicates he is guilty of a crime.
Lawyers Gianluca Caruana Curran, Charles Mercieca and Marion Camilleri warned that these comments prejudice Fenech’s right to a fair trial and amounted to a violation of a court order against reference to French’s pardon requests during the proceedings.
They also warned that Azzopardi’s claim contradicted evidence that there were multiple masterminds and statements by the prosecution that investigations are still ongoing.
Questioning whether Azzopardi is “protecting someone”, the lawyers said that his actions cannot go unpunished by the courts and asked for a remedy.
