Malta’s cabinet has decided on advising the island’s president to not accept murder suspect Yorgen Fenech’s request for a presidential pardon given to Melvin Theuma be removed.

The pardon was given on 25th November, 2019.

The decision was taken after consulting with the Attorney General and Police Commissioner.

Theuma, a key middleman in the murder plot surrounding Daphne Caruana Galizia, was given the pardon to allow him to provide information to the state in regards the assassination.

He allegedly helped Fenech pay three hitmen to carry out the murder, with all three currently in prison in relation to the murder.

Fenech has been in Kordin prison since November 2019.
