‘You Can Sit There And Moan, Or You Can Come And Be Our 12th Man!’: Malta Goalkeeper Andrew Hogg Urges Fans Ahead Of Tonight’s Match

As Malta gears up for the second match of the UEFA Nations League – and its first game on home turf – goalkeeper Andrew Hogg has taken to Instagram to urge fans to stop complaining and start supporting.

“You can sit there and moan about us, comfy behind a computer screen, or you can come and be our 12th man next Monday night!” Hogg said over the weekend. “Let’s all give our 100% for the flag we love, that includes you!”

Malta faces Azerbaijan tonight at Ta’ Qali, following a disappointing starter last Friday. Losing to the Faroe Islands (a tiny archipelago with a population of 50,000) 3-1, the Maltese football team had gotten flak over the weekend.

Yesterday, in his first press conference since Malta’s defeat, football coach Ray ‘Zazu’ Farrugia hit out at people who criticise the national team more than they support it.

“Don’t you think [the players] suffer? My God, I see it and I feel it, these boys really suffer,” Farrugia said in his pre-match press conference ahead of tonight’s UEFA Nations League game home to Azerbaijan. “Why can’t we stick together? In other circumstances, we do everything together. We collect money for people, we do this, we do that, we do this, we do that, so why don’t we also stick together when it comes to football?”

Tonight’s match kicks off at 8:45pm. Malta and Azerbaijan have come head to head six times before, with Malta winning three games, Azerbaijan winning two and the other game ending in a draw.

Malta’s League D Group 3 also has Kosovo, who the reds will be facing in Pristina on Thursday 11th October and on home turf on Saturday 17th November.
