Young Maltese Boy Carries On Tradition And Builds Mechanical Carnival Float… In His Mother’s Kitchen
Carnival is right around the corner, and no one has the popular festival more in mind than young Kayden Cardona.
The Maltese youth has been building his own carnival floats for the last five years, with this year’s float nearly ready. Saying that art was close to his heart, Kayden said he was in love with the work, time, preparation and dedication needed to create such impressive pieces of work.
“There are two enjoyable sides to it,” the young boy said in an interview with TVM. “Firstly, that you are working on it for a few months, and then when it is ready, that you will be taking the float out.”
His father, Martin Cardona, often times helps Kayden as he goes about his work. “It is good because we get to spend time together, but the main thing for me is that he is having fun,” Martin smiles.
His mother has had to be patient with Kayden and his new passion, with the young boy taking up space in her kitchen whenever carnival season approaches
However, the patience is paying off – Kayden’s floats keep getting bigger every year, and this year he’s created a mechanical float using items like newspapers, wood and special paint that dries quickly.
Kayden is now focused on one major goal – making a name for himself at Malta’s Carnival when he’s older.
“When I grow up I want my own float; I will know how to do everything, have my own team, and I’ll be the manager,” he said.
