Young Maltese Boy Whose Smile Won Over A Nation Is Recovering After Major Surgery
In a video uploaded by Xarabank earlier this year, a young Maltese boy called Nigel calmly explained how he desperately needed a heart transplant.
The story stole the hearts of thousands of Maltese people, and six months later, Nigel finally underwent the much-needed transplant last night.
Over Wednesday, Xarabank went up to London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital to speak to Nigel hours before he underwent the surgery. Even in the face of a major surgery, the young boy still mustered a smile or two.
In a quick video uploaded on Facebook just over 12 hours ago, Nigel can even be seen smiling and staying positive while literally being pushed to the operating room on the table, reminding everyone just what an adorable champ he really is.
On Wednesday night, an update on Nigel’s operation finally surfaced. “Nigel is ready, thanks for all your prayers. Keep praying”.
Nigel had been waiting in England for five whole months for a heart replacement, with the surgery taking a whole six hours.
When he was asked about how we would feel living with another person’s heart, Nigel answers as truthfully as possible, flashing a disarming smile. “I don’t know, because I’ve never experienced it.”
