The National dance company, ŻfinMalta, gave a stellar performance last Friday after it was invited to perform at the Visavi Gorizia Dance Festival in Italy.

The ŻfinMalta dancers performed ‘Girls & Boys’ by Roy Assaf under the Artistic Direction of Paolo Mangiola. The piece was performed at the SNG Teatro Nazionale Slovenia in Nova Gorica.

“I want to tell the audience to be kind to one another, to discover patience in challenging moments, to question their patterns, to get friendly with the unknown, to let go of sacred cows, to rebel when needed, to compromise when needed, to get lost on purpose sometimes, to be aware of the value of boredom and that everything in and around us is temporary,” Assaf said during an interview for the festival.

This year the Visavi Gorizia Dance Festival is celebrating its 4th anniversary. The dance festival involves 10 locations in four municipalities, and 12 companies from Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Malta, and Israel.

One of the objectives of the project is to intensify cross-border cooperation through the exchange of audiences and collaboration between cultural structures also in view of GO! 2025, the European Capital of Culture year to be shared by Gorizia and Nova Gorica.

This will prove to be a great opportunity for the Maltese National dance company to be in the limelight of such an event.

Girls & Boys premiered in Malta back in 2021 and was restaged this year as part of ŻfinDays 2023 at the Valletta Campus Theatre.

This is ŻfinMalta’s first tour for the 2023/24 Season, the next company tour will be Belgrade Dance Festival on 9th and 10th April 2024, followed by Teatro Ariosto in Reggio Emilia on 17th April 2024.

Well done ŻfinMalta!
