January 2020 is going to mark the beginning of a whole lot of changes. Barely two weeks into the new decade, Malta will be finding out who its new Prime Minister will be… and there’s actually a couple of names to choose from.

Last night, amidst shocking revelations into the assassination case of Daphne Caruana Galizia, governmental resignations and national protests, Joseph Muscat took to a special televised broadcast to announce he’d be stepping down as Prime Minister in a matter of weeks.

“I will be writing to the president of the Labour Party to begin a process to choose a new leader for the Labour Party by Sunday 12th January 2020,” Muscat told the nation on Sunday night. “The moment a new leader is chosen for the Labour Party, I will then resign as leader and hand over to the chosen person and then in the following days I will resign as Prime Minister for us to have a new Prime Minister.”

“So our country will be starting a short process – of just over a month – which will give the Labour Party a new leader and then a new Prime Minister,” Muscat clarified.

With that being said, who stands a chance at becoming the next Prime Minister of Malta… and who do the people want?
