The Nationalist Party’s firebrand conservative MP Edwin Vassallo has blasted Edward Zammit Lewis for seemingly allowing a minority to rule over the majority following a photo of the Equality Minister posing with a symbolic Maltese-rainbow flag earlier today.
“The flag of Malta is Malta’s,” Vassallo wrote on Facebook. “I believe in equality, which means respect to diversity, but it now seems like a minjority is ruling over the majority.”
“Do we know what we’re doing? Why? Equality does not mean that someone has a right over others, sir Minister,” Vasallo ended, sharing the now-somewhat-controversial photo of the Equality Minister and the flag in question.
Vassallo’s comments follow a slew of uproar on social media that followed when Edward Zammit Lewis shared a photo on Facebook on Monday afternoon
The photo in question, which shows the Minister with Malta Gay Rights Movement president Gabi Calleja and Allied Rainbow Communities’ Clayton Mercieca, drew negative comments on social media as some Facebook users felt the flag was actually disrespectul to Malta.
“Satan’s pawn pictured!” a particularly brash comment hit out, with another person adding, “Now go to Valletta to see them dancing in their underwear on floats and applause”.
