‘Give Us Our Country Back’: Franco Debono Says Wasteserv CEO Should ‘Apologise And Resign’ Over Frozen Waste Suggestion
Wasteserv CEO Richard Bilocca has courted a great deal of controversy over his suggestion to freeze organic waste to avoid odours until collection day… and one former MP has not minced his words when it comes to what he thinks Bilocca should do as a result.
“This man needs to do two things,” renowned lawyer and former PN MP Franco Debono wrote moments ago, sharing a photo of Bilocca on his Facebook profile. “Apologise with the Maltese nation for encouraging us to put our trash in the fridge. And resign.”
“Otherwise, there should be the largest protest in the history of Malta.”
“Not even when we were a colony and they were treating us badly were these things being said,” Debono continued.
“Give us our country back,” he finished, in a post which has already amassed dozens of likes and has started being shared on social media.
Bilocca’s unconventional advice came during a recent episode of XTRA on TVM together with Saviour Balzan, which was aired on Monday, and has since sparked a national debate.

“Right now the organic bag is collected three times a week, and the black bag twice a week, so including the organic waste with the black bag is not a solution,” Bilocca said “A small suggestion, to avoid the problem of bad odours especially in summer, is to freeze the bag when it is full to be taken out on the correct day so as to solve this issue. This does not create any problems for us.
