‘Hypocrisy Made In Malta!’: Gordon Manche’ Calls Out Critics Of X Factor Malta Contestant’s Gay Conversion Comments
Gordon Manche’, the leader of the River of Love, a Maltese Christian fellowship known for its hard stance against gay marriage, has called out the ‘hypocrisy’ of Maltese society after an X Factor Malta contestant was criticised for his personal beliefs.
“Malta: Freedom of Speech = swearing, offending your neighbours, making fun of God and public person and vulgar words are OK. But if someone mentions that Jesus Christ changed their life, then no! Hypocrisy made in Malta!!,” he said in a Facebook status.
His status was made following the audition of Matthew Grech, a vocalist and another River of Love convert, who said: “I used to lead a homosexual lifestyle, and then I found God. For a long time I stopped following my passions to follow Jesus. There can be love between two men and two women, yes – but only friendship love. Everything else is a sin.”

Malta made gay conversion therapy – and the promotion of it – illegal in December 2016. Many people felt that Grech’s comments had crossed the line and were regressive, while others believed he had the right to express himself.
