Maltese People React To Being Called The Ugliest In Europe
A post on Lovin Malta that ran over weekend gained some serious traction online after it hit on a sensitive subject with our readers. The issue arose from the clear distinction between how beautiful the Maltese people think they are when compared to what the rest of Europe thinks.
In a Reddit poll, people from all around the continent voted on who they thought had the most beautiful people in all of Europe. Sweden snatched the top spot, while runners-up France trailed behind.
Malta, on the other hand, got an embarrassing zero votes.
Here’s how Lovin Malta’s readers reacted to the Reddit revelation.
1. Some people instantly called bullshit
From comparing it to Eurovision’s notorious neighbour-voting system to instantly disregarding the survey’s validity because we were referred to as “Maltans”, some readers wouldn’t have any of it.
2. Others couldn’t help but agree with the harsh result
It takes a proper champ to admit that their country might not have the most beautiful people in Europe (not by a long shot).
Even though this Reddit post is obviously not some scientific ranking, some people still played along and admitted that maybe, Maltese people aren’t necessarily the biggest heart stoppers around.
3. Wait, is that 0 even Malta’s?
While some people were caught debating whether or not the Maltese people deserved that brutal zero, a couple of others pointed out that maybe, we didn’t even make it on the list, and that the rating was actually Sicily’s.
4. Some fine Maltese examples were presented to help our case… ish
One reader pulled out the holy trinity of Glenn Bedingfield, Jean Pierre Sammut and Daphne Caruana Galizia, pointing out that the voters probably weren’t over of these three Maltese specimen before not giving our islands any votes.
Jokes aside though, all the voters obviously haven’t seen our own Chucky Bartolo licking an ice cream with Ira Losco if we scored so miserably.
5. The obligatory “inner beauty is more important” made a much-needed appearance
Of course, the whole poll needed to be taken with a pinch of salt.
And, like many of our readers pointed out, it’s not just what’s on the outside that counts. Inner beauty and character traits are just as essential, and Maltese people have more than enough of that to go by.
