‘This Country Needs Leadership, Urgently’: Roberta Metsola Blasts ‘Sad Spectacle Of A Prime Minister’ Robert Abela
@ep_president @roberta.metsola has had her say on the ever-complicating political turmoil in her home country, putting Robert Abela on blast and calling him a “sad spectacle of a prime minister.”
“It is almost ironic that in a moment that requires leadership of steel, Malta & Gozo are led by a Prime Minister defined by his inability to take a decision and marked by a weakness of character that risks derailing the country,” Metsola wrote on social media moments ago.
“We are a proud nation, a people of iron will who have overcome challenge after challenge,” she continued. “The people of Malta & Gozo do not deserve the sad spectacle of a Prime Minister drowning under the weight of his inability to lead a nation. There are exceptionally good reasons why those charged with serious criminal offences should not be in positions of influence. It is obvious to every law-abiding citizen of our great country.”
“For the shortest term partisan gain, our Prime Minister is determined to drag the entire nation down with him, kicking and screaming,” Metsola went on. “This is the saddest political show that Malta & Gozo have ever witnessed, and we’ve been through it all. But just when you think we’ve hit rock bottom, the Prime Minister reminds us that he can keep digging.”
“It should be shocking, but we’ve almost grown used to the lowest possible common denominator becoming the highest possible standard for our Prime Minister,” the EP President continued in her damning statement. “Malta & Gozo do not deserve to be forced to go through it all over again simply because the Prime Minister is facing a revolt inside his Cabinet and Party, and revulsion among people outside.”

“This country needs leadership. Urgently,” Metsola finished. “We have serious issues to deal with. Enough with this theatre of the absurd.”
Earlier today, Chris Fearne resigned as Deputy Prime Minister, with Robert Abela issuing a public letter moments later urging him to reconsider. Meanwhile, former prime minister Joseph Muscat, his chief of staff Keith Schembri and former Konrad Mizzi are among a list of defendants who are set to appear in a criminal court on 28th May.
Do you agree with Metsola?
