WTF: This Photo Of Selmun’s Beach Is Downright Disgusting

Article Featured Image

Tucked in the North of Malta is a beautiful secluded beach just outside Selmun. Mostly untouched, it’s one of the best places to go if you love Maltese beaches but hate the hustle and bustle of people which goes hand-in-hand with other popular bays.

It’s also very difficult to access, with a long drive down ending up in an even longer walk. It’s all worth the effort though, as the quiet beach offers some breathtaking views. In other words, it’s our little piece of heaven, and it definitely looks the part.

You can therefore imagine the disappointment (and anger) that ensued when a user on popular Facebook group The Salott posted a photo of the beach yesterday which showed the beautiful small bay inundated with rubbish. “I walked down so happy earlier,” the person who posted it said, “and I left utterly disappointed.”

The post instantly got hundreds of people commenting in shock. “Some people are unbelievable,” said one comment. “Everyone should clean up afterwards. Whoever leaves such trash behind them should really be ashamed of themselves.” Many more people criticised the acts, calling them “utterly and horribly selfish”.

“It’s sadly the same on the whole island,” a person who had previously visited Malta said. “On my very first visit to Malta, I was at Golden Bay, and I found a full baby nappy just lying on the beach, less than 50 metres from a bin. I’ve never really wanted to go to sandy beaches after that.”

With June kicking off and the island gearing up for another summer, let’s hope this does not become a new trend.

UPDATE: The incident has since been reported, and the beach was quickly cleaned. Many people congratulated the swift action which was taken, with one person jokingly adding “Well done, moaning works!”
