Trevor Zahra Proposes New Poignant National Coat Of Arms
Trevor Żahra is one of Malta’s most prolific authors, with a very long list of works, from children’s books and musicals to adult novels and textbooks. As a result, the 69-year-old author is one of the country’s most beloved, having stolen the hearts and minds of a couple of generations. Long story short, when Trevor Żahra has something to say about Malta, many people stop and listen. And his latest commentary was actually a Facebook post about one of Malta’s current controversies.
“A proposal for a new coat of arms for our country!” Żahra’s post read, paired with a photo of the famous white and red flanked by two hauntingly familiar cranes, and a huge bulldozer superimposing the crest. The very obvious dig at the increased developments over the Maltese Islands was shared yesterday, but quickly garnered hundreds of likes and dozens of shares.
The many people who commented all seemed to agree with Żahra, and while the initial humour of the post was not lost on them, they quickly pointed out how sad the whole current issue really is. Others offered slight amendments.
“I would change the words to Repubblika tal-Iżviluppaturi (Republic of Developers),” said one person, with another suggesting, “I would add the subtitle Island of Wheels, Yells, and Smoke.”
