Something In The Water? This Birkirkara Tap Is Having An Existential Crisis

Article Featured Image

Malta has a hard time pleasing people with its water. It’s very much an “us against them” conflict, but instead of us and them, it’s tap and bottle. Those who choose bottled are tarnished with the guilt of killing the environment, and while plastic does plague our seas, we don’t always have another option.

For the tap drinkers among us, the only argument against it is the taste (maybe the slight salination, but we’ll look past the salty haters this time). Sometimes it’s described as metallic, sometimes it’s described as tasting of nothing at all – you know, like water should

It seems now though that those who don’t care about a slightly tinny taste have another one-up on the bottles… mysterious, orange water.

Not exactly a mystery, maybe more a case of a tank reaching empty and running through some silt

Maybe an air bubble in the tank let some dust in through a hole in the lid.

Or maybe, it’s just…

It’s not even orange, though?

Definitely something tropical – just whether it’s juice or not, I wouldn’t be so sure.

If it’s not juice, it might be something very similar.

Show of hands who got the Fanta tap too?

It could be one of the best Summer thirst quenchers…

And who doesn’t love things that are free?!

Iced tea is great – sweet, fruity tea and a whole load of sugar. What’s not to love? If I had this flowing freely from the tap, I’d make sure it came through my shower head and all. There’s just one question left to ask…

Speaking of choice, let’s not forget that we do have one

But the environmeeeeent.

Yes, the environment is currently suffering the brunt of our bone idleness and it is really time we started to consider it more when it comes to our consumerism. But I’m not sure if you knew…

Tell that to Google, my friend.

Tap water: 1. Bottled water: also 1, because Google rates tap water as awful.

Mela it’s decided.

It’s safe to drink, now what?

It’s good for you ta’.

Can we actually find out what it is, now?

How generous of the Water Services Corporation to hook them up to Farson’s pipes. I’m slightly jealous, but wouldn’t want to rush to this sink to rinse away the taste of a hangover, that’s for sure.

Is this an island-wide initiative to mark Cisk’s 90th anniversary?

Hit the floor guys – if they’re giving it to the tourists too, it’s official.

This is speech-worthy. It needs to be news. This is the biggest thing since Eileen Montesin’s Instagram account. Where are the riots? Take to the streets and feast, y’all, let’s thank our old friend Jospeh il-King! Did you catch his speech about it last night on TVM?

Speaking of Michelle Muscat – a supportive wife, proud mother and apparently near-Olympic-level swimmer – it was inevitable until this comment popped up…

You just gotta love reverse osmosis.
