Here Are Malta’s Best And Worst Moments Of 2017
As 2017 came to a close, we asked our readers to vote for their highest, and lowest, points throughout the tumultuous year. Now the survey has been closed and the votes have been tallied. Here are the results.
The WORST moments
3rd: Ben Camille’s reality show (7%)
Harsh way to start y’all.
Malta’s heartthrob Ben Camille launched his very own reality show, Benjamin, October 2017.
2nd: Azure Window’s collapse (30%)
Early in the year Malta bid farewell to the iconic arch at Dwejra. Strong winds knocked down the natural structure early in the morning on the 8th of March.
Worst: The murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia (56%)
The nation stood still on October 16th as news broke of the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. As the repercussions of her murder continue to be felt to this day (and will likely never go away), Daphne’s assassination marks the worst moment of the year for Malta.
The BEST Moments

Best: The legalisation of Gay Marriage
Following the introduction of Civil Unions just three years earlier, Malta legalised gay marriage in the summer of 2017.
