A photo uploaded on Facebook group I’m From Naxxar & Proud had residents and people from all over Malta outraged this weekend. The photo, originally uploaded on the 5th of June, showed a bunch of syringes which a user said she found in the fields bordering Triq is-Seneskalk in Naxxar.

“It’s a popular area for walking and dogs,” she said, urging people to be careful if they had children with them. She went on to say she would instantly be informing the Local Council about the matter.

The photo was shared again on the 10th of June, with a worrying update by the woman. “The Council has acknowledged my e-mail and the Police have been informed. The syringes are still there five days later.” The original post was even reshared, this time on popular Facebook group The Salott, yesterday.

“The Local Council told me today that they have sent the Naxxar Police a reminder,” she told Lovin Malta. “They said it is the police who have to dispose of hazardous waste.”

The post was met with outrage, which only got worse when the latest update was issued. “I cannot do more than this, unless I go with gloves and a bucket myself,” the woman said. “And I’m actually seriously considering that…”
