You Heard It Here Second: Pia Zammit Is A Fridge And *Not* A Nazi

Maltese actress Pia Zammit was accused of being a Nazi over the weekend after It-Torċa ran a story featuring photos of the stage star wearing a swastika behind the scenes of a 2009 performance of the wartime comedy ‘Allo ‘Allo.

In response to the accusation, Zammit posted a statement on Facebook questioning the status of censorship in Malta, but she also had some pretty fun reactions to the whole ordeal, too.

The real entertainment and juice of some stories usually come through in the form of reactions from the subjects and surrounding opinions, and yesterday saw iNews accusing Zammit of not apologising for appropriating and flaunting the Nazi symbol.

An anonymous educator who spoke to the media house had enlightened them of stories that saw Prince Harry apologising after he was seen wearing “a Nazi uniform whilst armed with a Nazi weapon”… even if that weapon turned out to be a cigarette.

In the spirit of being dignified, Zammit clapped back at the reporters in a way that can only be described as naturally genius for an artist of her calibre.

Acting is all about separating yourself from the world and channeling the reality of a character.

If ever there was a casting call for “absolute queen”, then Pia Zammit may as well just burn the signup form and leave behind one of these little beauties.

Not a Nazi in sight here. Seems like someone’s taken her for a spin; perhaps it was that washing machine friend of hers…

The image above, of course, was actually from a pantomime production of Aladdin that featured Pia and castmates dressed up as household appliances and dancing to Under the Sea from The Little Mermaid. Maybe we should all start blaming Pia for global warming now because her cooling rods release too may CFCs?

Maybe Pia can’t be a Nazi at all because she’s actually the sole survivor of pre-Russian Revolution Jewish settlement Anatevka.

And, there’s a fiddler on her roof.

Imagine that; being tormented by the sounds of a violin throughout every day. Let the Menorah light for eight glorious nights in honour of her ear’s sacrifice. This woman should be a martyr, not a scapegoat.

Really though, if you are bringing up something from 2005 as justification to slam someone for something they did backstage during a production that is set during WWII and would therefore feature a swastika or two (originally a symbol of peace among Eurasian religions that was in turn appropriated by Hitler and his cronies) you will undoubtedly hear a whisper or two about round pieces covering a woman’s breast.

And if you are that offended by something that really had nothing to do with anyone, why not try looking at it all from another perspective? Flip the fucking image.

Unfortunately, we live in a time where offence is one’s greatest weapon, but in light of this all, those of you slating the poor girl for a backstage bit of booby banter might want to read through some of the comments they’ve been leaving behind on posts about migrants.

Regardless of what you think, always remember:
