Robert Abela Opens Aki London Following Valletta Restaurant’s Success

A taste of Malta has officially landed in central London.
Prime Minister Robert Abela has inaugurated Aki London, a new Maltese-owned restaurant that has just opened at One Cavendish Square, following the success of its original outlet in Valletta.
The project, launched by db Group, marks another international step for Maltese hospitality. During the opening ceremony, Abela praised the venture as a sign of confidence and ambition among Maltese businesses looking to compete globally.
He highlighted how Malta’s culinary scene has grown in recent years, noting that the island now boasts six Michelin-starred restaurants, including one with two stars, alongside 31 other Michelin-recommended eateries. “For a country our size, that’s an incredible achievement,” Abela said.

According to the Prime Minister, the London opening reflects both the entrepreneurial drive of Maltese companies and the growing reputation of Malta’s food culture, which he believes will help attract higher-quality tourism to the island.
While in the UK, Abela also visited the Malta Tourism Authority’s London offices to meet staff, and paid a call to the British High Commission, where he met Maltese diplomats alongside Malta’s High Commissioner Stephen Montefort.
Aki London is now open to the public and aims to bring the flavours of Japan to one of the world’s most competitive dining cities.
