‘They Are God Sent’: This Maltese Down Syndrome NGO Is Changing Lives

Article Featured Image

For such a small island, there are NGOs a plenty, doing fantastic work to make Malta a better place. One of them is Down Syndrome Association Malta.

This small but mighty NGO got so much love in Lovin Malta’s Social Media Awards, that they deserve their very own shoutout.

What do they do?

In brief, they work to encourage people with Down Syndrome to fulfil their potential for successful and happy lives, in a society that recognizes their abilities and is supportive of their needs.

They do this by increasing public awareness, working with parents of children with Down syndrome and helping them find inclusive work later in life.

Here are some of the reasons people voted for them:

“I have Down Syndrome and without this organization, I would not have learned all that I have and would not have all the friends that are in my life,” one voter said.

“They advocate independence and truly are a God send for me and all other persons living with Down Syndrome. Without this organisation, I definitely wouldn’t have a social life. They are truly deserving of this award!!!”

“They work tirelessly!” another wrote, simply.

“The DSA works hard towards giving persons with DS and their families a voice and to increase awareness. It organises activities that help these persons to become more independent and have a quality life.”
