30 Years Of Care, Compassion, Engagement And Professionalism From CareMalta Group
CareMalta Group, the island’s top nursing and residential care provider, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year! Standing firmly on its ethos of providing exceptional care, compassion, engagement and professionalism, the company has supported thousands of Maltese families through its top-quality care services for the elderly, persons with dementia and persons with disabilities.
2023 is in fact an important year for the group, explains CEO James Sciriha, who went on to describe how CareMalta Group has maintained its strength over the past 30 years by operating a sizable number of homes and by consistently finding methods to adapt to the nature of the industry and the changes through time.“This is not only reflected in our vision, philosophy, and values but through the actions of our staff. Our care homes have built up excellent reputations within our local community, with the vast majority of our new residents choosing us through recommendations from others. We also encourage family members and friends to get involved in their loved one’s care and become part of the care home’s life”.
After establishing itself as the island’s leader in residential care for the elderly, CareMalta then branched into the area of disability through HILA (Home to Independence and Limitless Abilities). HILA offers specialized services that cater to persons with disabilities or mental health conditions, ALS and other motor neuron diseases. HILA is CareMalta Group’s specialized arm, which offers a range of services including residential, respite, and day services with a person-centred approach.
CareMalta currently looks after 1,600 residents and employs 1,200 trained and dedicated members of staff. The firm has continuously invested in the quality of the many services it offers, thus ensuring each member of the team works with a proper sense of integrity, where quality is non-negotiable and safety is at the centre of practice.

To improve each resident’s quality of life and to encourage healthy living, we encourage and advance the idea of active ageing in all of the care facilities that CareMalta manages. Residents are invited to participate in planned activities in order to completely embrace wellbeing.
Reading groups, field trips to historical sites, picnics, and participation in events organised by both CareMalta and the Vassallo Group, such as the Vassallo Group Century Ride 2022, which was held in April and aimed to make a positive change and peace through sport, are just a few of the activities planned within each of CareMalta’s care homes.
CareMalta’s employees are also well looked after and constantly supported when it comes to enhancing their skills or gaining new ones. In 2018, the firm launched iCare, a training programme for its employees based on the language of professionalism, engagement and compassion.
