Summer has arrived at last. That means the sun, the sea, the sand – and this year, the 1960s and 70s too!

On 30th June, put on your dancing shoes for the ultimate Friday night summer party, at the groovy premiere of Malta’s brand-new musical Ellie, il-Musical at Teatru Manoel.

Here’s why you should start summer 2023 with a trip back in time to the summer of love on the Zebra Carpet…

1. Bring on the flower power fashion

Ellie, il-Musical is set in Malta in the late 1960s and early 1970s – so why not put on your favourite 60s and 70s inspired outfits to celebrate its very first show?

From mini-skirts to brightly coloured florals, bell-bottom trousers to bold tie-dyed prints, now’s your chance to bring out your inner mod, rocker, hippie or space age icon!

2. Zoom in for your zebra carpet moment

Now that you look the part, it’s time to share the fun with your friends!

Take your moment in the spotlight on the Zebra Carpet, via the slo-mo videos and photos that will be covering the event (and don’t forget to check out the official hashtag #EllieMusical on social media for more pics and videos from the night!).

3. Sing and dance to the greatest tunes of the 60s &70s

Ellie, il-Musical is a jukebox musical featuring loads of great covers of songs from The Beatles’ catalogue.

So for its Zebra Carpet premiere, get ready to sing and dance the night away to your favourite retro songs from this iconic era.

4. Watch some of Malta’s biggest names performing live on stage

Of course, it wouldn’t be a star-studded premiere without some stars!

And in the cast of Ellie, il-Musical, there’s quite the constellation of household names: Clare Agius, Jeremy Grech, Patrick Vella and Christine Francalanza, among many others.

Plus, these top performers are directed by theatre veteran Josette Ciappara, alongside choreographer Warren Bonello, vocal coach Sean Borg and musical director Elton Zarb.

5. Be part of the unforgettable premiere

Written by Simon Bartolo based on an idea from Antoine Farrugia, this lighthearted story is performed predominantly in Maltese. The story centres on four ambitious teens who look like they have a bright future ahead – but can everyone finally accept that all we need is love?

With classic 60s and 70s music hits performed in English and a light-hearted story performed in Maltese, Ellie, il-Musical is Malta’s very own new musical – and its Zebra Carpet Premiere promises to be a summer night to remember.

Book your tickets to the Zebra Carpet Premiere of Ellie, il-Musical on Friday 30th June via www.teatrumanoel.mt, or by email to [email protected] and telephone on (+356) 2124 6389.

The Zebra Carpet opens at 7.30pm, and the show starts at 8.30pm.
