Isma Minn Ommok! 5 Ways Your Mum Empowers You Without Knowing

Those of us lucky to have a badass mother can all agree on one thing: you only appreciate the ways she empowered you when you get a little older.

To celebrate Mother’s Day, here’s an ode to the little ways she helped us become better people as adults, without us even knowing.

1. ‘Forcing’ us to say no to junk food on the regular.

When you’re a kid, junk food is all you ever want to eat. But imagine what you would’ve been like if mum gave in every time you demanded dinosaur-shaped nuggets instead of the nutritious stuff?

We can thank our mothers for our cooking skills (if you have them), those nostalgic home-cooked meals and the reason we know what to put in our bodies today. Grazzi Ma!

2. And helping shape our personalities via skills and hobbies.

As children, extracurricular activities after school just felt so extra.

A lot of us would’ve preferred to plant ourselves in front of the TV, watching reruns of our favourite cartoons. Luckily, our mothers were our first cheerleaders and motivational coaches: supporting us as we play football, learn ballet, take art lessons or pick up an instrument.

Whether you still practise that hobby today, it no doubt helped you get to know yourself a little better and bank a few skills along the way. If that’s not true love, then we don’t know what is…

3. Giving us that annoying curfew…

Curfews: any teenager’s worse nightmare.

But think about it, having curfews made you appreciate every late night out just a little more, even if you had to sneak around once in a while. It also instilled a sense of responsibility, knowing that you can’t stay out too late on a school night or when there’s something important to tend to the next day.

In other words, curfews were a lesson of discipline and balance. And who doesn’t love sleeping at 9pm on a weekday anyway?

4. …and offering the best free relationship advice.

Take yourself back to that first heartbreak. More often than not, this is when our mothers step in, giving some free stellar dating advice, even if it wasn’t what we wanted to hear at the moment.

But how many times has she been proven right about someone we’ve dated? That is proof that mothers do know best.

5. Putting everyone before herself.

It’s hard to imagine your mother not acting selflessly throughout childhood.

Our mothers were always there, at the front of the crowd on Sports Day cheering us on, or behind the scenes, making sure we’ve got a roof over our heads, a full fridge and most importantly… giving endless streams of unconditional love and good food.

There’s really no one quite as unique as a mother. So this Mother’s Day, why not spoil her to something equally bespoke and beautiful?

That’s where MVintage comes in.

The Maltese jewellers want to help you celebrate the uniqueness of each and every mother. The result is this classic and customisable collection, a perfect way to say a little thank you on that special day.

A mother’s love is empowering, so what better way to symbolise that than through the gorgeous Mum Pure Love heart sets both as pendants and earrings? and go a step further with a customised message engraved on it.

If hearts aren’t her thing, they’ve also got Lion Habbata or Oopsy Daisy sets, all of which can feature a personalised, heartfelt hand-carved note.

What’s more, when you splurge €119 or more at MVintage, they’ll throw in a gorgeous pair of Pure Love Habbata Stud earrings for Mother’s Day too.

Keep them for yourself or match them with her new jewellery for a set gift – she’ll probably love that!

Our mothers never cut corners when it comes to giving us all they could. This year, let MVintage help you show how grateful you are for the support.

Plus, you’ll definitely be the favourite child afterwards.
