7 Reasons You Need To Attend The Malta Book Festival

Article Featured Image

Malta’s favourite book festival is back, and bigger than ever – the Malta Book Festival returns for another year of awesome events, conferences and of course, books!

The festival, which runs for five whole days, will give members of the public the chance to visit one of the most historic venues on the island – the Grand Hall of the hospital of the Knights of St John – and partake in the biggest book event on the island.

But if that’s not enough for you, here are seven other reasons why you definitely need to attend the Malta Book Festival.

1. Meet the authors

This is your unique opportunity to meet your favourite authors, get your book signed, and even participate in fun events with the authors. You can even ask them anything you want – when will you ever get that opportunity again?

2. Awesome guests

Five brilliant contemporary minds, all special guests of the festival – Gilbert Sinoué, Ros Barber, Shahd Alshammari and Alex Vella Gera, moderated by Rosie Goldsmith – will engage in a discussion about the question of ‘Truth in Fiction and Non-fiction’ during the main conference of the Festival. Come along and take part in the debate! You can also learn all about their processes for writing and how they succeeded in their careers during the events dedicated to each of them.

3. Learn everything about local publishing

This is your chance to meet not only local authors, but the people who make books possible: the publishers and the editors, the bookshops, the NGOs – they will all be gathered under one roof. Take the opportunity to speak to the men and women involved in the publishing industry, and maybe even score your first publishing deal.

4. Family-friendly activities

The Malta Book Festival is a great opportunity to get some cool books, but it is also a great opportunity to spend the afternoon and evenings in some super fun activities, whether you are young or young-at-heart.

5. Exclusive book launches

You can get to meet, and watch, authors and publishers explain how they worked together to produce their latest books, which will be launched at the festival. Find out when and who by clicking here!

6. Buy prize-winning books

Some books at the festival have been shortlisted for the National Book Prize 2017. Make sure you get your hands on them before they run out.

7. It’s free and accessible to everyone

The best part is, the festival is free to attend and totally accessible to anyone! Not only that, but over the weekend free transport will be provided from Valletta city gate (next to independence monument) all the way to the MCC.

The Malta Book Festival will take place at the Mediterranean Conference Centre (MCC) in Valletta, 8 -12 November, and will be open to the public everyday mornings and evenings, and all day on both Saturday and Sunday. You can find the opening times for the book festival, and the programme of events by visiting the Malta Book Festival events page and the National Book Council’s website.
