7 Things You Need To Know About Malta’s Biggest Food Festival This Weekend
If there’s one event that is a must-attend for all foodies, it’s The Malta International Food Festival. The long-awaited annual event brings together some of the most incredible cuisines and talented chefs from all over the world to the charming Mdina ditch between the 19th and 22nd July.
Between the beautiful summer sunshine and surroundings, family-friendly atmosphere, and, of course, the mind-blowing food, this is one food festival you need to attend – and here are seven reasons why.
1. Entrance is free for everybody
Everybody’s invited to the Malta International Food Festival – just head to the Mdina ditch and follow your nose.
2. And there will be over 80 chefs cooking up a storm
You can expect to see multiple techniques and styles of cooking between the assembled chefs – be prepared to be wowed.
3. You can try over 100 international dishes
Have you ever tried crocodile meat? Miss stroopwafels? Maybe some very local and authentic Thai dishes? All this, and more, will be finally in your reach.
4. And you have over six areas to explore
The festival is split between six areas. There’s the main area of course, but there is also a whole area dedicated to children, for example, perfect for families to head to.
There will also be a very cool VIP area hosted by Churchill Masters Butchers. This area will double as a sit-down restaurant where you can choose the fresh cuts of meat you’d like to buy, and have it cooked right on the spot.
5. As well as cooking demonstrations that might just teach you some new tricks
Caterers will be set up around the sites to get busy right in front of you, holding live cooking shows for the visitors. You can also taste some of these products, and buy some of them as well.
6. Relive Mdina’s medieval history through live re-enactments
Get your Game of Thrones on with some live historical re-enactments hosted by Heritage Malta. They’ll be putting on superb re-enactments, provide live entertainment, and – as is fitting – be offering centuries-old traditional food.
7. You can even get your hands on the brand-new International Food Guide
The guide, which is endorsed by President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, supported by Hugo’s, Pavi and Pama, is an up-to-date food and recipe guide. It’s written by some top Maltese personalities, and you can buy it at the festival, as well as Pavi and Pama supermarkets.
BONUS: You can even win an amazing cash prize
To celebrate the launch of the Malta International Food Festival, the organisers will be awarding prizes amounting to thousands of euros – every single hour. Head to the festival on the opening day and get in the running to win some cash, right before eating some seriously tasty food!
