Award in Gaming Law
In this course you will be introduced to the principles and features of gaming law, in Malta and abroad, local and foreign case law, and the regulation of the gaming industry by the Malta Gaming Authority, studying its history, role and powers. The course covers modern gaming from bingos and betting to casinos and has a particular focus on online gaming. You’ll also consider ancillary laws relevant to the industry, including anti-money laundering legislation. Award in Banking and Finance Law
If you’re involved or looking to become involved in this ever-growing sector then this is the course to get under your belt. It offers an introduction to the principles of banking and finance legislation globally and an overview of the variety of banking and financial services laws in Malta as they evolve to meet the demands of an ever-changing world. You’ll cover the role of banks and financial institutions, the nature of financial transactions, and the way in which they are regulated locally and beyond to protect traders, investors and consumers. You’ll also consider the role and powers of the Malta Financial Services Authority, the consequences of breaching of the law and the practical implications of anti-money laundering legislation to banking financial services. Award in European Union Law
Whatever sector you’re in, you’re almost certainly looking beyond Maltese shores to our nearest neighbours in the European Union. This study programme offers a basic introduction to the EU, its concepts, principles and its fascinating unique legal structure. On this programme, you’ll garner a comprehensive overview of EU law, directives and regulations and delve into the development of the Union treaties and the composition, competencies and powers of its constituent bodies. For this award, you’ll also consider the relationship between the supranational EU and its Member States and look at the workings and jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice, its proceedings and powers. It’s a powerful addition to your CV.
Award in Legal Research and Interpretation Methodology
Last but not least, if you would like to build or further develop your research skills within a range of legal spheres, this course encourages you to consider theories and research methodology and put it into practice. You’ll conduct first research either in person or virtually in places including the Court and Notarial Archives, a Court judgement search engine and other online sources of EU law and policies. You’ll then analyse and present the results of your research and formulate opinions based on your findings. You’ll also study the manner in which Maltese law is formulated and consider, compare and contrast the linguistic style of Maltese law with those used in other jurisdictions. It’s a great way to be looking further at yourself and helps you cast your eye further afield.
