Calling All Students And Young Professionals: Your Insights Are Needed!
Are you interested in the future of STEM skills in the job market, and are you between 18 and 34? If so, we need your help.
An important research study is currently underway across ten European countries, and The Bloom Research Company is working with a major European research enterprise to gather the data from Malta.
The study focuses on the issue of gender gaps and gender discrimination in STEM studies and careers. Additionally, it aims to understand the perceived importance of STEM education among students and young professionals.
Why your participation matters
STEM education is a teaching approach that integrates science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to foster critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a robust understanding of the world around us. STEM-related fields are essential drivers of innovation, economic competitiveness, and productivity growth that shape the future of our world.
Nevertheless, despite the high and ever-increasing demand for skilled STEM professionals, the number of job opportunities in STEM fields surpasses the number of STEM graduates, leading to a widening skills gap.
According to the World Economic Forum (WEF), several countries have attempted to increase STEM enrolments to support growing industries such as medical technology, digital services, mobility, and computer science. However, success in this area has been uneven across countries. In Europe, for example, only Germany produces more than 30 per cent of STEM graduates.
What’s more, women’s participation varies across STEM fields. In biomedical sciences, women have almost reached gender parity. Still, in computer science, to name just one STEM field, only about 18% of students receiving undergraduate degrees are women.
