WIN: Peppi Cannolo And 6 Other Maltese Celebrities As Sicilian Sweets

Article Featured Image

If you think about it, celebrities and desserts are kind of the same thing. We don’t really need them, we don’t always like them, some people say they don’t even want them; and yet, we can’t get enough of them.

As a Mediterranean island, Malta is no stranger to the tastes of international sweets. In fact, some of our favourite sweets come from the not-so-distant island of Sicily.

So, for no reason other than that we wanted to, we’ve matched some of our favourite celebrities with some of our favourite Sicilian sweets.

Enjoy… in moderation!

1. Cannolo Ricotta = Peppi Azzopardi

And it’s not just because of his fluffy white hair. A connolo is generally a Sicilian sweet that everyone knows, and Peppi is the TV star that everyone knows. So it only makes sense!

2. Red Velvet = Valentina Rossi

There were too many connections to make between the two, so we had no choice. Val is definitely the nation’s favourite red-head, the letter ‘V’ is quite prominent, and red velvet is the perfect balance between homey and trendy – just like Valentina!

3. Cheesecake = Ben Camille

The X Factor Malta host and daddy of the decade? Ben oozes cheese. And we love him for it.

4. Cassata Siciliana = Eileen Montesin

A cassata isn’t usually the front-runner when it comes to favourite desserts, but it always makes an appearance. And there’s something kind of motherly and caring about it, so that’s why we’ve paired it with Eileen, the nation’s mother.

5. Rum Baba = Ira Losco

We all know that Ira is a literal babe. That’s close enough to baba for us. And the alcoholic twist just makes this dessert a whole lot sexier, so it just seems to fit.

6. Tiramisu = Davide Tucci

Rich, dark, creamy, decadent… am I talking about Davide or the tiramisu? You’ll never know.

(I’m talking about both of them.)

7. Profiterole = Stephanie Spiteri

A crowd-pleaser and always seems to show up, just like Stephanie. Both of them seem to go down well with the masses.  Basically all we are saying is that nobody can fill the TV (profite)role like Stephanie.
