Driving Is No Different! Transport Malta’s Winter 2023 Campaign Against Drunk Driving
As winter 2023 approaches, Transport Malta has unveiled a crucial initiative aimed at combating drunk driving.
The campaign, strikingly titled “Driving is no different” is a part of Transport Malta’s ongoing commitment to road safety, emphasising the importance of being fully aware and unimpaired while driving.
The campaign is especially pertinent during the festive season, a time when celebrations often lead to increased alcohol consumption.
Recognising the need for heightened vigilance, Transport Malta is amplifying its efforts in both enforcement and education to ensure the well-being of all road users.
Jonathan Borg, CEO of Transport Malta, highlights the critical role of educational campaigns in promoting road safety. He notes that while the organisation maintains year-round efforts in this area, the holiday season requires a unique and creative approach.
“During this festive time, it’s vital that we all take extra care on the roads, being mindful not only of ourselves but of others as well,” Borg said.
The campaign encourages the public to avoid drinking if they intend to drive, aligning with the season’s spirit of responsibility and care for others, reinforcing the message that road safety is a communal duty.
Key collaborators in this national effort include the Malta Road Safety Council, the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Directorate, The Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects, and the Ministry for Health. Their collective support highlights the multifaceted approach needed to tackle the issue of impaired driving effectively.
‘Driving is no different’ goes beyond focusing on the dangers of drunk driving. It’s part of a broader mission to instil a sense of responsibility and attentiveness among drivers. The initiative educates individuals on the critical need for focus and concentration in driving, just like any task that requires full attention.
With an emphasis on responsible decision-making during the holiday season, the campaign urges individuals to prioritise their safety and that of others. By actively choosing not to drink and drive, road users are taking a proactive step towards a safer, more secure driving environment.
Ultimately, this initiative by Transport Malta is not just a seasonal campaign but a part of a larger vision to cultivate a culture of responsible and safe driving habits within the community.
It serves as a reminder that safe driving is not just about following rules but making wise choices each time we get behind the wheel.
As the festive season rolls in, Transport Malta’s message is clear: Let’s look out for each other and make a conscious effort to prevent accidents. Embracing the ethos of “Driving is no Different,” we can all contribute to a safer road environment, not just during the holidays but throughout the year.
Don’t drink and drive!
