€57 Million Available For New Interreg Italia-Malta 2021-2027 Applicants
If you have an idea for a project that will benefit people, the land or the sea here in Malta, as well as over in Sicily, then it’s all eyes on Interreg Italia-Malta Programme which will soon announce the first call-out for applications under the 2021-2027 fund.
Interreg Italy-Malta 2021-2027 is an EU programme to encourage and strengthen cooperation between organisations in Sicily and Malta. It supports great projects that develop shared areas of interest or cooperate on solving common issues aligned to EU Priorities, whether that’s to improve the use of our natural and cultural heritage, protect biodiversity, combat pollution or better manage environmental risk.
There’s also money available for research and innovation, smart specialisation, and other initiatives that increase the competitiveness of micro, small and medium-sized organisations (MSME), promote employment and social inclusion or encourage sustainable growth and good governance.
Which priority reflects your organisation best, who would you love to partner with, and what could you do better or differently if you had a fresh cash inject?
From an initial budget of more than €50 million more than half of this million is envisaged to be made available to you with the issuance of the first call for proposals, whether you’re working in local or national government, at a public institution or within an educational or training agency, or if you represent a business venture, a local society or an association promoting the active participation of disadvantaged sectors of population. And whatever your position if your project idea fits the Programme objective and succeed in securing Interreg Italia-Malta 2021-2027 backing, you’ll be up to 80% co-financed by the EU.
That’s great news, and yet there’s more!
To make understanding and accessing the fund as easy as possible, and the Funds and Programme Division, Malta National Coordination Authority for this EU Funding opportunity, are on hand. They happily provide information, will also be organising information sessions and can guide you regarding support you need to make things happen.
Here’s a quick rundown of four fascinating Interreg Italia-Malta projects that are currently on-going before you put on your thinking cap and throw your hat into the ring:
- ENISIE assists socially-oriented micro-small and medium enterprises in preserving a harmonious equilibrium between their “business” and “social” aspects by employing open innovation and design thinking tools.
- BESS, a management and remote surveillance system to monitor the conservation status of all Sicilian and Maltese pocket beaches through a detection network and the acquisition of satellite imagery.
- BYTHOS, a project creating economic value through virtuous recycling and reuse of organic waste in the fishing, catering and manufacturing sectors; for example, bioactive molecules from fish waste which are potentially useful in the development of antibacterial/antimicrobial and even anticancer products!
- CORALLO, an initiative aimed at addressing the challenges related to urbanisation pressure, inadequate management of Natura 2000 sites, and low public awareness and appreciation of the assets within these sites in Sicily and Malta.
