The cherished National Dance Company, Zfin Malta, is rolling out the red carpet for its fabulous 2023/24 season, and it’s calling out to every curious soul in the world!

This season is all about fresh, bold creations, spicy collaborations with top-notch Maltese artists, and divine works by international dance wizards, crafting a diversified and exhilarating experience for everyone!

Artistic Director Paolo Mangiola spills some tea: “This season, our focus shifts to the notion of voyage and exploration. We immerse ourselves in new works that touch on tradition and humour, storytelling, and fantasy; works that offer hope and solace and a place to reflect and be moved. The season line-up is filled with new and established voices who observe and capture aspects of the world through their own perspective, giving back works that are poetic and powerful.”

Hold on to your dance shoes, peeps! ŻfinMalta is not just making moves; it’s setting the stage on fire as it pirouettes towards its ten-year anniversary! It’s a testament to the unyielding passion and incredible growth, earning standing ovations both locally and globally, and placing contemporary dance at the pinnacle of Malta’s performing arts scene!

The curtain rises with ‘Aerial’, a breathtaking piece by Mangiola for Notte Bianca, bringing pianist Tricia Dawn Williams into a mesmerizing dance-music dialogue, all from an aerial perspective. As we step into 2024, get ready to be swept off your feet with ŻfinDays, an annual sensation featuring ‘Cantata’ by Mauro Bigonzetti and ‘Aringa Rossa .10’ by the inimitable Ambra Senatore, setting the stage ablaze with festive homages, playful games, and ever-evolving choreography!

Swing by in March for a taste of Intimate Żfin, a series crafted by Paolo Mangiola and performed live with Alexandra Alden and her band, navigating themes of belonging, home, and braving the unknown, accompanied by previews of Alden’s upcoming album!

And who says we can’t mix tradition with contemporary vibes? Experience a unique Christmas production, featuring a dance theatre adaptation of Trevor Zahra’s Ħolm tal-Milied, combining classic Maltese traditions with a contemporary musical score and aesthetic, performed live by The New Victorians!

April takes us to the magical realms of Gozo, exploring myths and motherhood with Lesley Telford and ‘Cantata’ by Mauro Bigonzetti, presented at the Aurora Theatre. Meanwhile, May witnesses a splendid alliance with Ballet D’Jerri in ‘Geographers of Solitude’ by Paolo Mangiola, delving into the beauty of diverse landscapes and the extraordinary migratory bird, the Arctic Tern.

ŻfinMalta is incredibly stoked to be working with a kaleidoscope of local creatives, including the likes of Victor Jacono, James Dimech, Tricia Dawn Williams, The New Victorians, Alexandra Aldren, and many more!

This season is also about pushing boundaries and nurturing talents, offering an array of education and participation programmes, online activities, and open classes, aiming to demystify contemporary dance and provide a platform for exploration and development for all dance enthusiasts!
