High-Speed Mobile Internet Lands In Malta As Melita Launches New 4.5G Mobile Network

Slow loading times are a thing of the past for Melita’s 115,000 mobile subscribers as today sees the launch of their brand new 4.5G network.
Starting in Valletta and available on all plans for all customers by September, and across the whole country by the end of 2018, this move cements Melita as a frontrunner in the bid to get Malta completely 5G ready. All new and existing customers will be able to benefit from the speed jump and absolutely no extra cost.
Melita has partnered with tech giants Ericsson to make this move and launch the most advanced mobile network in Malta. “Ericsson is proud to work with such a forward-thinking company as Melita,” said Mario Bacchini, head of Ericsson in Malta. “Malta has always been at the forefront of digital technology, today is a milestone in our long-term partnership with Melita and starts their journey towards 5G.”
Customer satisfaction is also a big priority for Melita. Currently boasting an impressive 8.9/10 rating for customer satisfaction (a number they worked hard to boost over the last 18 months), the telecom company will continue to make sure the customer is at the forefront of all their strategies, a sentiment reiterated at the launch by Melita CEO, Harald Roesch.

The government, which recently signed an EU directive to have much of the continent 5G-ready as soon as possible, was also pleased to see the step forward by Melita. Parliamentary Secretary for Financial Services, Digital Economy and Innovation Silvio Schembri attended this morning’s event and said the government would “work hand in hand to ensure the country is embracing new technology”.
While congratulating Melita on its big step forward he expressed his excitement to see what the future would hold for a more connected island as we continue to be trailblazers in European statistics on telecommunications.

The event closed with an announcement of a brand new mobile plan by the company. “Customers paying €15 a month will be able to swap comfortably between 3GB of data or 300 minutes of calls” said Mirelle Muscat, the Head of Marketing at Melita. The best part? If you don’t use it all, it rolls over to a new month. This will be over and above the unlimited free SMS and 20GB of available MelitaWiFi.
