How A Malta Grown Software Company Became Part Of Cybersecurity Giants

For the past eighteen months the local job market has seen multiple career opportunities arise with Hornetsecurity, which is the global cybersecurity company that acquired Malta-grown software company, Altaro, early last year.

The group acquired Altaro as part of its plans to become the top provider of next-gen security, backup and compliance solutions for Microsoft 365, Microsoft’s communication and productivity platform in use by hundreds of millions of users.

As part of this strategic acquisition, Hornetsecurity has retained and further developed both the company’s technologies and its worldwide team with Altaro being absorbed into the Hornetsecurity brand.

Founded in Germany in 2007, Hornetsecurity is a leading global email cloud security and backup provider, which secures companies and organisations across the world.

With more than 400 employees in 12 regional offices, Hornetsecurity operates through its international network of 8,000+ channel partners and its 11 redundant, secured data centres.

Its premium services are used by 50,000+ customers including KONICA MINOLTA, Grohe, Herlitz, Mercedes, Swisscom, BBC and CLAAS.

The Malta office is one of Hornetsecurity’s main hubs, contributing to all aspects of the group’s operations, with particular focus on product development, customer support, and marketing.

The company continues to advance, expand and evolve through ongoing acquisitions and supported by investment from prestigious private equity firms.

This continuous growth means it constantly seeks new recruits to join the team.

Hornets, as employees are known, get to work on award-winning products that cover all important areas of email security.

This includes spam and virus filtering, protection against phishing and ransomware, legally compliant archiving and encryption, as well as email, endpoint and virtual machine backup, replication, and recovery.

Hornets are able to work remotely, but the camaraderie and team spirit means that many prefer work from their office. They also regularly travel to work with their counterparts in different Hornetsecurity locations, grabbing a beer or two at the company’s own beer wagon at the Hannover headquarters.
