The arts inspire, entertain and improve our quality of life, and Arts Council Malta (ACM) promotes the performing and visual arts for all of us to enjoy: that’s whether you’re interested in classic theatre or contemporary dance, in seeing the world through the eyes of a painter, photographer or sculptor, or reimaging the past in innovative ways.

Throughout the year, the myriad events supported by ACM stimulate creativity, and enhance our cultural vitality; they promote the value of our culture and heritage, and encourage fresh social dialogue and transformation. And now it’s time to have your say!

You are invited to share your thoughts on the creative sector with ACM ahead of The State of the Arts Symposium in October, and also to participate in the event itself.

How to help guide the direction of the arts nationally as Arts Council Malta looks into a dynamic future beyond #strategy2025.

The quick and easy way:

Simply tell ACM NOW in just a few words or phrases what changes you feel are important or urgent via this link. Or if you’re taking a few moments to think first, you’ll also find the link on the ACM Facebook page or over on Instagram where the link’s in their bio. The deadline for making your contribution is 2nd June.

Have more to share?
Are you a creative practitioner or do you have big, bold suggestions, inventive ideas or a fresh perspective on the arts? Or perhaps you’re simply eager to learn more? Whether you’re keen on unusual community projects or the increased translation of classic plays into Maltese, on international collaborations for new opera or blue-sky thinking on immersive multidisciplinary exhibitions in Gozo, share your thoughts through the form.

The ACM would love to hear what you think.

This year’s The State of the Arts  symposium is a two-day ACM event taking place on 24th and 25th October and dedicated to Malta’s artistic and creative communities.

Held at University of Malta – Valletta Campus for maximum accessibility, it’s a welcoming and inclusive platform at which you are invited to join an ongoing discussion between artists, practitioners and the country’s cultural stakeholders.

With informative keynote speeches, lively panel discussions, interactive multi-modal workshops and great networking opportunities, you’ll hear about new initiatives, case studies and good practices.

You’ll also have the chance to contribute to interdisciplinary conversations about the challenges and opportunities faced by the Cultural and Creative Sector and shared interest groups in Malta, and the national and international contexts that shape them.

What do you feel is important immediately? How would you like to see the sector develop over the next five years?

The symposium will incorporate fresh thinking on the suggestions of the wider community (and the comments submitted this week), and it will build on the themes of the previous two conferences. These have included the right to culture, the protection of artistic freedoms; accessibility, sustainability and well-being in the arts, the professionalisation of the arts, knowledge exchange and access to a framework of resources and tools.

What would be most interesting or useful to you, and why?

Whatever your role – whether you’re a dance practitioner, a curator, an academic, an activist or an entrepreneur, the ACM will welcome your thoughts and experience so that together we all continue to support, promote, invest in and improve Malta’s creative sector.

We’ll see you there!
