Let There Be Light On The Night: Museums By Candlelight Is Back

A magical aura is set to descend upon Birgu in the evening of Saturday 10th May, as Heritage Malta once again lights thousands of candles at three of its historical sites, following the public’s outstanding response to the first edition of Museums by Candlelight last October.
On the day, after normal opening hours, the Malta Maritime Museum, the Inquisitor’s Palace and Fort St Angelo will reopen their doors at 7:00pm and welcome visitors till midnight.
The three sites are in Birgu, within walking distance of each other and visitors will be able to enter all three for just €3 donation.

Besides the extraordinary opportunity to enjoy these sites in the enchanting glow of candles and torches, visitors can also enjoy the experience of the three exhibitions that are currently set up at two of them: An Island at the Crossroads at the Malta Maritime Museum and Fare Convito – The Archaeology of Banqueting in Hospitaller Malta and Threads of Faith – Liturgical Vestments of the Order of St John at the Inquisitor’s Palace.
This spectacular event will be further enhanced with live musical performances and re-enactments. At the Inquisitor’s Palace, the Ta’ Verna Folk Band will be playing between 8:00pm and 10:00pm. Luke Briffa, accompanied by other musicians, will be entertaining visitors at the Malta Maritime Museum from 8:30pm till 11:30pm. The educational presence of history bounder Citoyen Port and living history interpreters Compagnia San Michele will also be gracing the Malta Maritime Museum.
At Fort St Angelo, there will be musical entertainment provided by Bernie & Pod from 8:30pm till 11:30pm, as well as the presence of Show of Arms re-enactors. Food and drink will also be available at Fort St Angelo.

So let the glow of thousands of candles guide you through centuries of stories – first in Birgu in May, then in Valletta in June and in Rabat and Mdina in September!
