P. Cutajar & Co. Ltd on Wednesday announced the introduction of dedicated therapy leave for its employees, allowing team members to take time off specifically to attend mental health appointments.

The new leave policy forms part of a wider initiative to improve mental health support across the organisation as it marks Mental Health Awareness Month with a focus on emotional wellbeing at work.

The initiative grants employees access to up to 12 hours of dedicated therapy leave annually, scheduled confidentially through HR.

Alongside therapy leave, the company is also offering free therapy sessions to all employees and conducting an anonymous Healthy Minds Survey in collaboration with Richmond Foundation to better understand and address staff wellbeing needs.

The move reflects a growing trend among employers worldwide to prioritise emotional wellbeing and destigmatise mental health care in the workplace.

“We believe that mental health support shouldn’t just be spoken about, it should be embedded in how we care for our people,” said Sarah Zammit Cutajar, CEO of P. Cutajar & Co. Ltd.

“The therapy leave, along with the free sessions and employee survey we’ve introduced, gives our team permission to put their mental wellbeing first…These are not just one-off measures, they are part of our long-term commitment to creating a work culture where asking for help is normal, respected and supported.”

By investing in mental health, the company said it is not only supporting its people, but also helping to shape healthier, more compassionate workplaces across the local business community.

The internal initiatives follow a major external commitment announced earlier this year, in which the P. Cutajar Foundation partnered with Richmond Foundation to fund over 1,000 free therapy sessions for people in financial difficulty across Malta.

The partnership forms part of P. Cutajar & Co.’s 160th anniversary celebrations.

In recent weeks, a series of personalities have issued their support for the collaboration between P. Cutajar and Richmond Foundation, including Ira Losco, Peppi Azzopardi and Lovin Malta’s Denise Gafa among several others.
