Personal Numbers Score Big Wins In Lotto Draw
What is your favourite number? And how do you pick it? Close to €500,000 was won on Tuesday with many players picking their age and date of birth in the last Lotto draw.
The lotto draw is widely considered one of the most anticipated weekly events with thousands of players eagerly awaiting the draw of the famous five lotto numbers. The game is immersed in a long-lasting tradition, having entertained Maltese households for the past 100 years.
Lotto is a game of numbers and traditionally a game where players select numbers that have a particular meaning to their life. This choice of meaningful numbers is prominent across different game formats such as Prima, Ambo, Terno and Quaterno.
This trend was never more evident than in the Lotto draw of last Tuesday. Hundreds of players won big after selecting their year of birth coupled with their age. The first three numbers drawn were already enough to have many jump for joy.
The Prima (the first number drawn) was 19, followed by 75 and 48. This sequence resulted in winnings for people born in 1975, who are 48 years old, of up to €4,000 for every €1 placed on the Terno game. Players win when three out of the five numbers are drawn.
National Lottery plc, operators of the National Lottery of Malta, have ensured that the game becomes even more enticing by eliminating the prize caps from all winnings, a practice that had been introduced by the previous operator. This ensures that players are paid in full regardless of the number of winners.
Moreover, Lotto is now offering better returns to players with every game type selected, with Prima paying €70 for every €1 placed, Ambo €250, Terno €4000 and the new Lotto Quaterno game offering a fixed jackpot twice weekly of no less than €500,000.
By popular demand, National Lottery plc has introduced a second lotto draw every week to complement the traditional Saturday draw. The new Lotto draw takes place every Tuesday and is televised on national TV at 8:40pm. Each week thousands of players are engaged in this game that is by far the most popular game amongst the Maltese.
