9 Reasons The EU Is Completely Obsolete
1. It’s not doing much for the economy…
… oh wait – it totally is!
As things stand the EU is the largest economy in the world. It is also the world’s largest exporter of manufactured goods and services, and is itself the biggest export market for around 80 countries.
2. It’s not like it removed all roaming charges…
… oh wait – it has!
Starting May 2017, the MEPs have finally managed to negotiate a plan that will see no additional charges when using your phone while roaming. Texts, phone calls and yes, even data, are no longer going to be overpriced.
3. It hasn’t managed to keep the peace…
… oh wait – it has!
For over sixty years. That is no small feat, considering the state of Europe when the original treaties were signed. The fact that there has been sixty years of stability within its members is not something to dismiss.
4. It’s not very democratic…
… oh wait – it is!
Every MEP (Member of the European Parliament) is voted for by the people. Each country is given a number of seats to represent their population’s percentage. No one in parliament is there without the backing of their constituents back home.
5. It doesn’t help students…
… oh wait – it does!
Students stand to gain so much from the EU. Erasmus alone has seen millions of students travel and work all across the continent with ease. I mean, it actively pays students to be able to study abroad.
And if that wasn’t enough to convince you, then maybe the million babies Erasmus is responsible for will.
6. It doesn’t care about people…
… oh wait – it does!
The EU constantly strives to make sure its member states are complying with regulations for equal rights for all races, religions, sexual orientations and genders.
7. It doesn’t help in any practical way…
… oh wait – it actually does!
Cheaper flights, easier trade, being able to relocate at the drop of a hat… the list of ways every individual’s life has gotten way simpler is pretty damn long.
8. The MEPs are all boring and stuffy…
… oh wait – they’re not!
From the Maltese MEPs spearheading some awesome initiatives to the sassy clap-backs during parliament, there are many different people from many different backgrounds, but it’s not as dull as everyone pretends it is.
9. We’re not stronger when we’re united…
… oh wait – we totally are!
Any form of negotiation is way easier as a united front… The EU has taken on multinational giants like Microsoft for unfair competition.
